Author’s Thoughts

This footage of Bruce Lee is amazing and the fact that he gives two opponents a whooping makes it even more incredible. I have seen several comments floating around the net saying that this is fake so I am not sure to be certain if this is actually Bruce Lee playing.
If it is then, wow. If its not then it still looks damn impressive.

Transparent Jellyfish

These transparent jellyfish are found in Antartica and measure an inch long (2.5 centimeters).

Transparent Larval Shrimp

These Transparent Larval Shrimp can be found in the in the waters around Hawaii and this particular one seems to be hitching a ride on an equally see-through jellyfish.

Transparent Salp

These strange see through creatures are known as Salps, they feed on small plants in the water and can grow up to 10cm in length.

Transparent Amphipod

Called Phronima, this unusual animal is one of the many strange species that were found during a deep sea expedition in the North Atlantic.

Transparent Icefish

The Crocodile Icefish are found in the cold waters around Antarctica and southern South America, they feed on krill, copepods, and other fish and their blood is transparent because they have no hemoglobin or only defunct erythrocytes. Their metabolism relies only on the oxygen dissolved in the liquid blood, which is believed to be absorbed directly through the skin from the water.

Transparent Zebrafish

This particular see-through fish was actually created by scientists in 2008. The reason was so that researchers could study several disease processes, one being the spread of cancer. The transparent fish are allowing researchers at Children’s Hospital Boston to directly view fish’s internal organs and observe processes such as tumor growth in real-time in living organisms.

Transparent Butterfly

These Glasswing Butterflies are found in Mexico and Panama and have transparent sections in their wings.

Transparent Squid

The Glass squid is found on the southern hemisphere’s oceans and it is probably the most strangest transparent creature I have ever seen. It has light organs on its eyes and possesses the ability to roll into a ball, like an aquatic hedgehog.

Transparent Head Fish

This bizarre deep-water fish called the Barreleye has a transparent head and tubular eyes. The two spots above the fish’s mouth are not eyes, they are in fact olfactory organs called nares, which are analogous to human nostrils.

Transparent Frog

The Glass frogs are native to Venezuela an belong to the amphibian family Centrolenidae. While the general background coloration of most glass frogs is primarily lime green, the abdominal skin of some members of this family is transparent, so that the heart, liver, and digestive tract are visible through their translucent skin.

So there you have it, some of the most bizarre and amazing transparent creatures that can be found on our planet and you have to admit some of them were pretty weird, right?

These movie stars often undergo hours and hours of makeup applications which can include adding prosthetic body parts, changing one’s race, gender or species and also changing the actor’s age.

Here are a few actors whose appearances were greatly changed to play their roles.

John Matuszak – The Goonies

Professional football player Matuszak famously transformed into everyone’s favorite childhood freak, Lotney Fratelli or otherwise known as Sloth for the 1986 Spielberg movie – The Goonies.

The make up was quite groundbreaking at the time and it took a total of five hours for the transformation.

Selma Blair – A Dirty Shame

The normally small-chested Blair portrayed a stripper named Ursula Udders in the 2004 film A Dirty Shame.

The prosthetic breasts used in the film required four hours of make-up. For the nude scene prosthetic breasts costing $5,000 were used and the studio’s lightning was so bright that the film only had several hours to film before fake breasts cracked

Eric Stoltz – Mask

Stoltz appeared in the 1985 drama which was based on the real life of Roy L. “Rocky” Dennis.

The mask was created by using three separate pieces of foam latex applied to the face and then blended with makeup. Stoltz also wore dentures to simulate Rocky’s deformed teeth.

John Travolta – Hairspray

In the movie Hairspray, Travolta takes the role of “Edna”, a character he envisioned to be Sophia Loren…if she were to gain 200 lbs.

The role required Travolta to undergo five hours of extensive make up and prosthetics to complete his transformation. He even wore high heels in a number of scenes.

Robin Williams – Mrs. Doubtfire

Robin Williams portrayed Mrs Doubtfire in this 1993 comedy and his transformation was brilliant and so believable.

Williams’ underwent eight separate stages of makeup and a whole lot of blush for this role.

Tom Cruise – Tropic Thunder

Tom Cruise’s performance in Tropic Thunder surprised me and other moviegoers with his greedy and ruthless Hollywood producer character – Les Grossman.

For this role Cruise donned a fat suit, bald wig, chest hair mat and prosthetic hands.

Eddie Murphy – Norbit

Murphy enlisted the work of Rick Baker to help create a multitude of other characters for the movie Norbit. The most outrageous of these, was “Rasputia Latimore”, an outrageously sex-crazed and obese woman.

Ron Pearlman – Hell Boy

Ron Pearlman is well known for having donned makeup and prosthetics for the role as Vincent in the 1980s Beauty and the Beast TV series and was back in the makeup chair for the Hellboy movies.

Most of his red body suit was made of red latex, and the costume itself took 4 hours per application.

Gwenyth Paltrow – Shallow Hal

Gwenyth Paltrow plays the love interest of Hal (Jack Black) in this 2001 comedy in which she plays a very fat and heavy woman.

The application of her body suit and accompanying make-up took four hours each time but we did also get to see her in her true beautiful form a few times as well.

Rebecca Romijn– X Men

Romijn’s makeup in X Men, was the culmination of the work of four make-up artists, a hundred small silicon prosthetics, lots of body paint, and nine hours of application per use. The end result is completely worth it. According to Romijn, for X Men 2, the application time was shortened to six hours.

Emma Thompson – Nanny McPhee

In this film, Thompson plays a haggard and wart-covered nanny, need I say more.

Charlize Theron – Monster

Theron takes a break from being her normal hot self for this role and was transformed into rough looking, life tarnished monster.

This is a change we hope she doesn’t plan on making again for a while.

Heath Ledger – Batman: The Dark Knight

Heralded as Ledger’s career defining performance, his portrayal of The Joker was quite different than that of his precursor, Jack Nicholson. A nice touch was the subtler green hair, an overall more disturbed and disheveled appearance, and the “Chelsea Grin” facial scars.

Brad Pitt – The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

In the film adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s famous children’s book , Pitt plays a character that ages backwards. He went several transformations for this film, and it is not until the end do female movie goers get to see the Brad Pitt they are used to.

The artist responsible for these pencil sculptures is Jennifer Maestre who had this to say about her work:

“My sculptures were originally inspired by the form and function of the sea urchin. The spines of the urchin, so dangerous yet beautiful, serve as an explicit warning against contact. The alluring texture of the spines draws the touch in spite of the possible consequences.”

“To make the pencil sculptures, I take hundreds of pencils, cut them into 1-inch sections, drill a hole in each section (to turn them into beads), sharpen them all and sew them together.”

“I started off in the direction of prickly things when I was in my last year at Mass College of Art. It all comes from one idea I had for a box with a secret compartment that would contain a pearl. The box would be shaped like a sea urchin, made of silver. In order to open the box and reveal the secret compartment, you’d have to pull on one of the urchin’s spines. The idea was of something beautiful, sculptural, but that you wouldn’t necessarily want to touch, and that also held a secret treasure.”
